things i could do without: when people assume things about me. or worse, assume that because i choose not to do or approach something that it is because i can‘t do it. when in actuality i am perfectly capable, but i prefer to do things correctly and efficiently or not at all.

and in some ways i suppose this applies to my personal life as well.

whatever.

tonight has got me a bit messed up. i could use a vacation soon, even for just a day or two.

considertheaesthetic:

I absolutely love this book design by Josip Kelava, who by the way, I’m obsessed with.

Anatomy Illustrated is a book designed to showcase the master illustrators of the 16-19th centuries. In particular, it focuses on the illustrator William Cheseldon who was an English surgeon and teacher of anatomy, and who was influential in establishing surgery as a scientific medical profession. His works, along with many other illustrators, have been redesigned to a modern style, incorporating typography as a sense of interaction with the illustrations.”

"

If you’re an introvert, you also know that the bias against quiet can cause deep psychic pain. As a child you might have overheard your parents apologize for your shyness. Or at school you might have been prodded to come “out of your shell” - that noxious expression which fails to appreciate that some animals naturally carry shelter everywhere they go, and that some humans are just the same.

…Now that you’re an adult, you might still feel a pang of guilt when you decline a dinner invitation in favor of a good book. Or maybe you like to eat alone in restaurants and could do without the pitying looks from fellow diners. Or you’re told that you’re “in your head too much,” a phrase that’s often deployed against the quiet and cerebral.

Of course, there’s another word for such people: thinkers.

The Mileage of Light

Composite Image Credit & Copyright: Dennis L. Mammana

If you’re driving down a dark road on a starry night, you might want to check the odometer. Earlier this month, when traveling astronomer Dennis Mammana did he was greeted with the significant mileage reading of 186,282 miles.

That’s the number of miles light travels in one second. Or, if you prefer kilometers, the number you are looking for is 299,792. Mammana muses that in driving to countless observatories, star parties, and night sky photo shoots it has taken his 1998 vintage sport utility vehicle over 13 years to cover that distance. Of course, he considers his next important mileage milestone to be the distance to the Moon.
